Let’s face it. Sometimes garages can get a bit messy. When that happens, it is time to organize it. While this is not always a fun job, there are three things you can do efficiently to complete this task.
Create Three Groups
Your first step should be to create three groups: keep, give away, and throw away. Depending upon the extent of the disorganization, this could take a while. You may want to start with one box or one area at a time and go from there. Get rid of the items in your throw away and give away piles as soon as possible so that you will have more room for the things that you are keeping.
Sort Some More
This step can either happen alongside creating groups or once you have decided what items you are keeping. Sorting items into groups such as holiday décor, outdoor tools, and sports equipment, will help you keep your garage space well-organized. Store similar items together to make it easier to find them later.
Use Your Space Efficiently
The floor is not the only place to store items in your garage. If you don’t already have shelving, now’s the time to get it. You may also want to invest in hooks or other ways that you can hang items on your walls. Some people even get overhead storage racks, so they can use the space near their ceiling for storage. The more that you can get off the floor, the more space you will have for your vehicles and for walking around.
