The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro: Lighter and More Powerful – A Muscle Car for a New Generation
While not completely redesigned from the ground up, the Chevrolet Camaro still looks good for being almost 50 years old. For 2016, the Chevrolet Camaro looks almost identical to previous years, but there have been some subtle changes to the design that may not be so obvious.
For starters, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is lighter and more powerful, which means it can leap from 0 to 60 in a mere 4.0 seconds. That’s right, GM finally decided to put the Chevrolet Camaro on a diet, slimmed it down a bit and boosted the power to make it more competitive with its Ford and Dodge counterparts.
By shaving each ounce off of everything that could be shaved down, including the nuts and bolts, a method employed on other GM vehicles, the Chevrolet Camaro lost some serious weight. And with a redesigned 455 horsepower V-8, the Chevrolet Camaro has the power to compete with Ford and Dodge. With the V-6, the power drops a bit, but it still has enough to get to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, still impressive.
So what does all of this mean to the consumer? Consumers’ Choice Award gives the new Chevrolet Camaro high marks for its lighter weight and more powerful engine. Someone going out looking for a muscle car that has the style of the Chevrolet Camaro, but now has the power to back up the term “muscle” car will be pleasantly surprised with the changes that have been made and what the new Chevrolet Camaro has to offer in terms of refined capability.
And for those of you that want a GM vehicle that delivers, this is it.
