Holiday Shopping for This Year’s Must Have Item: The Tablet
Posted on November 29, 2012

This season tablets have flooded the market.  Make your holiday shopping easier this year with a quick review of this year’s must have gift.

Apple fans will undoubtedly go for the iPad 2.  Its sleek design with curved edges makes it easier to hold and it’s fairly light at 1.3 pounds.  One drawback is that you will be limited to Apple approved apps.  It’s also missing ports for memory cards and headphones.  Apple also has the iPad fourth generation available starting at $499.

Google has entered the tablet market with their Nexus 10.  The ten-inch tablet runs on the Android operating system and delivers solid performance.  It boasts better screen resolution than the iPad and is the only tablet on the market with speakers on each side.  Prices start at $249.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is another Android tablet that’s geared toward creativity.  It’s a bit pricey, starting at $500, but it offers the S pen, allowing users to sketch, write out formulas, and more.  One odd drawback worth mentioning is that the device will not allow you to attach files to outgoing gmail messages.

Barnes & Noble’s Nook HD+ is a good choice for avid readers.  Nooks aren’t just for reading books anymore; they also offer access to email, facebook, and other apps.  It provides solid performance starting at $269.

When choosing a tablet, it’s important to think about what you’ll be using it for.  If you need to use it for work or writing, Microsoft Surface would be a good choice.  It’s designed for productivity and comes with a version of Microsoft Office.  The cover has a functional keyboard for easy data entry.

Tablet prices are dropping as more enter the market, making them affordable for many people.  With a great selection and low prices, you’re sure to find the perfect tablet this holiday season.
