3 Preventative Dental Treatments You Can Do Today To Save Money In The Future
Your relationship with your dentist should be a positive one. To help keep it positive, there are a host of preventive treatments that you can do at the dentist office to save you time, money and even pain down the line. Here are 3 things you should consider doing at your next dental visit.
Sealants. Sealants are plastic coatings primarily painted on molars to help protect them from cavities in the future. They are designed to fill in the deep grooves of the teeth and can last for up to 10 years. Sealants are regularly examined to determine if they need to be repaired due to chipping or cracking.
Fluoride treatments. Fluoride is shown to decrease the likelihood of cavities. Today, we receive fluoride in our water and our toothpaste but a fluoride treatment is a concentrated amount applied directly to the teeth. It contributes to good oral health including reducing the harmful bacteria that is found in the mouth to affect teeth and gums. Fluoride treatments are either painted on the teeth, provided in an oral rinse or in a mouth tray placed inside the mouth. It takes just a few minutes to apply and requires that you not eat for 20-30 minutes. Recommendations suggest that fluoride be applied regularly to help maintain strong tooth enamel and keep cavities away.
Deep Cleaning. Deep Cleaning is a preventive treatment that is performed in the dentist office after a periodontal exam. It is usually completed if you are found to have deep pockets around the tooth where bacteria and plaque can be found. While this procedure is often performed on anyone who has not had regular dental treatments, anyone who shows signs of periodontal disease is eligible. This treatment can keep more aggressive and potentially costly treatments at bay.
